Abstract

Atherothrombotic diseases such as myocardial or cerebral infarction are serious consequences of the thrombus formed in blood vessels. The coronary arteries are particularly at risk from developing clots and may lead to myocardial infarction. Thrombolytic agents such as tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA), urokinase (UK) and streptokinase (SK) are used all over the world for the treatment of atherothrombotic diseases.

Abstract

Food legumes or pulses, as they are commonly known, constitute an important part of the diet in Indian population. Among pulses green gram is widely considered as an excellent source of high quality protein, water soluble vitamins and minerals of dietary significance. However, the productivity of green gram is low due to poor soil fertility and can be increased to a great extent with the application of fertilizers. Application of organic manures help to sustain crop productivity besides maintaining soil health.

Abstract

Cancer is increasingly recognised as an important public health problem worldwide. Of the 5.9 million cases each year globally, three million come from developing countries. Circumstantial evidence in man suggests that immunity is important in host resistance aganist antigenic malignant disease and that any breakdown of the normal mechanism facilitates the development of malignant tumors.

Abstract

Banana (Musa Paradisica) and Guava (Psidium guajava, L.) are tropical fruits cultivated prominently in the plain areas of the country. Fruit ripening clearly involves the induction of variety of enzymatically catalysed metabolic reactions. Ripening fruits soften because pectin and other cell wall carbohydrates are broken down enzymatically. Therefore this investigation was undertaken to find out the activities of selected enzymes namely amylase, invertase, pectin esterse, polygalacuronase, acid phosphatase and polyphenol oxidase in the ripening of Banana and guava.
